Radio, Podcasts, Magazine, and Newspaper:

My Work

I'm an author, journalist, producer, and on-air host. A storyteller.

I love telling true stories: podcast and radio stories, narrative nonfiction, intimate journalism. My narratives, essays, and reported pieces have appeared in or aired on American Public Media’s Weekend Edition, multiple podcasts, WashingtonPost.com, Texas Standard public radio, The Rocky Mountain News, Christianity Today, and other national magazines and on-air. I have reported internationally and am a former radio and television anchor, wire service reporter, national radio show host, and was the first female news anchor for USA Radio Network. I've published five books and my newest is a memoir called The Long Awakening. It was a decade in the making.

A Bit More

My other four non-fiction books, which have sold more than a quarter million copies and have been translated in four languages, include: If Mama Goes South, We’re All Going With HerIf Mama Ain’t Happy, Ain’t Nobody HappyMoms Who Changed the World; and Working at Home.

I’ve spoken professionally for over 20 years, have done hundreds of radio and television interviews, hold a B.A. in Broadcast Communications and am a member of ASJA (American Society of Journalists and Authors) and AIR (Association of Independents in Radio).

My Personal Jazz

I’m married to a guy I’m still crazy about after decades and we have five children who remind me of life’s priorities.

Our youngest kiddo above is now in college, but I had to include this. Time flies.

I adore radio and memoir. I listen to an insane amount of podcasts. I love a latte at my local hangout, tacos at my other local hangouts, a little adventure, field reporting, work with meaning, people who talk about ideas, and finding and telling other people’s stories. Oh, and in case you didn’t catch this, I love books; reading them, writing them, talking about them.
